Dane’s Gut Top 10 QB Rankings For 2021

Alright, fuck it. I’m stranded in an airport with over a three hour delay so here it is. Here is my list ranking my top 10 QB’s for the 2021 NFL season that nobody asked for with with the sole intention of pissing somebody off. Ok, not the SOLE intention, but if somebody out there hates this list, then it means I did something right. A couple disclaimers as we go into this list:

  • This is based off of nothing but gut feel. Stats mean nothing to me right now. Usually they do (and maybe I’ll make a stats based list soon) but for right now, gut feel is everything.
  • There will absolutely be bias in this list. I’m not ashamed to admit it. I’m not perfect and I have opinions, and sometimes those opinions are strong ones. Get over it.

Ok now that we all understand how this list is going to work. Here we go. The top 10 QB’s going into the 2021 NFL season:

  1. Patrick Mahomes – I mean c’mon. I said I’d be biased but I’m still realistic. He’s the best QB in the entire league and arguably the best player in the entire league. If somebody makes a top 10 list and Patrick Mahomes isn’t #1, then the list is a throwaway. Absolutely meaningless.
  2. Aaron Rodgers – I’m sure I’ve said it on the Eight and Eight podcast before that sometimes Aaron Rodgers doesn’t impress me, but like damn Dane, those were some bad takes. He’s Aaron Rodgers for fuck’s sake. He’s got an insane arm and it he’s rocking with nobody in the receiving core outside of Adams. Depending on where Aaron plays this year, he might be MVP again. He seems pissed off and nothing is more dangerous than a pissed off quarterback.
  3. Josh Allen – Bills fans rejoice. Hand up, I hated on Josh Allen his first two seasons, and he proved me wrong. But to be fair to myself, he blew those first two years. Josh has found his groove though and damn, it is definitely fun to watch. I have Josh at 3 because he’s absolutely electric in both the best way possible, and the worst. You really never know what is going to happen. Could be a 80 yard bomb, could run 20 yards back trying to avoid a sack fumble. Either way, sign me up to watch this guy play.
  4. Ryan Tannehill – This may be my most unbiased rank of the entire list. People will hate but Tannethrill has been nothing short of incredible since he’s joined the Titans. Leading the Titans to an AFC South title last year and just dropping dimes all over the field is truly a sight to see. Don’t get me wrong he has a ton of weapons, but so did Mariota, and that team looked like a shell of what we see now with Tannehill behind center. I love this man. He deserved to be a top 5 QB.
  5. Tom Brady – I hate that I love this man now. Ever since leaving the patriots Tom Brady has done nothing but grow on me. I can’t help but respect the man and what he’s done. And don’t get me wrong, that Bucs team was 1000% carried by that defense and the fact that his set of weapons was absolutely ridiculous, but I’d be a fool to not include the best to ever do it in my top 5. As long as I see him standing upright on a football field, he’s top 5.
  6. Russell Wilson – People may be starting to get mad here. It seems to me people think Wilson is a top 3 QB, but I say nay! For being an extremely great mobile quarterback, Wilson stinks at being mobile. Seriously, watch this man try to scramble and run face first into a defensive lineman. It’s incredible. That being said, Wilson’s deep ball makes me feel some type of way and that alone makes him elite. Just stop sacking yourself Russ.
  7. Kyler Murray – Kyler may be the most fun to watch on this entire list. And I think right now, I blame all his short comings on Kliff Kingsbury. I’m on the record saying Kliff is a terrible coach and I stand by that take. So even with that Kyler is awesome. Shift as hell and has a good arm to back it up. Here is a take: he’s a better runner than Lamar. Yep I said it. Something about his scrambling is crazy fun to watch. Remember when it was a controversial decision to take Murray when they had Rosen? Good times.
  8. Lamar Jackson – Alright, fine, I’ll put him on my list. I had half a mind to leave him off of here though. Let’s face it, Lamar’s one of the best playmakers in the NFL, but for a QB his arm stinks out loud. He makes great throws here and there but overall it just isn’t there. If he ever develops a consistently accurate arm then I’ll move him up into the #1 spot on this list. But for right now, he’s an incredible runner/playmaker with an average to below average arm.
  9. Matt Stafford – Big Matt guy here. I love Stafford and always have. I think over 75% of my reason for having him here is the dude’s toughness. Absolutely incredibly to watch this guy gut out game after game when playing for the Detroit Lions. Playing on that team alone deserves a spot on the injury list but this guy battled his guts out for years. I’m excited to see him on a competent Rams team with a competent coaching staff. I expect nothing but big things. Maybe not a Super Bowl, but a deep playoff run wouldn’t surprise me from Stafford this year.
  10. Justin Herbert – I’m all in on this guy. Imagine if Anthony Lynn wasn’t his coach last year. He would’ve blown up more than he already did on this team. He’s big, athletic, and his arm is similar to that of Josh Allen’s. I love me some Herbert. Too bad they hired somebody else as their coach that I refuse to learn the name of until he makes the playoffs. Herbert is awesome and will continue to be for years to come.

There you have it. The real top 10 QB rankings of the 2021 NFL season. I think these are flawless and remember, it’s gut feel only. So when you get mad because I left guys like Dak or Baker off this list, just know it’s because my gut thinks there is something off. And my gut is almost never wrong.
